Grant applications now open
City of Sydney are calling for applications to find a head tenant for a new, multi-disciplinary arts centre in Green Square.
The former nurses’ quarters of South Sydney Hospital has been transformed into a 3-level creative centre. Facilities include a gallery, classrooms, artist studios, a purpose built facility for jewellery making, creative office space and a number of hireable spaces suitable for meetings, events and community use.
The Joynton Avenue Creative Centre is a key component of the new Green Square Community and Cultural Precinct. Green Square is the largest urban renewal area in Australia, with its population set to almost double over the next 15 years.
The head tenant of the centre will need to propose a strategic vision for the venue that supports the local arts industry and engages both the community and creative sector. They will have significant experience in managing cultural programs and creative spaces, and the capacity to partner with like-minded organisations to deliver a diverse mix of arts, cultural and community offerings under one roof.
The City of Sydney will lease the centre to the head tenant under our accommodation grants program, which provides subsidised access to City-owned buildings for use by cultural and community organisations.
The head tenant will be offered a 3-year lease (with a 2-year option based on review of performance) and can apply for a rental subsidy to operate the centre.
