Dear Friends and Colleagues,
When I started as inaugural Director with Theatre Network NSW (TNN) in January 2015, it held so much promise but the board and I knew it would never be an easy ride. And it hasn’t. But it has been, and still is, inspiring, rousing, and liberating. We started with bare bones and have built an incredible organisation packed with resources through good will and sheer determination. I have worked for many arts organisations across my career but Theatre Network NSW and the boards, members, partners and volunteers I have worked with in my role as Director have never been afraid to ask the hard questions, reconsider their own perspectives or work collaboratively together to build something better. This is creative work at its finest and TNN has been there to push new directions and actions that benefit our diverse NSW theatre sector. It is hard work but, I believe, important work.
Four and a half year’s later, I am resigning from this position so I write to thank all of those I have had the privilege to work with in my role with TNN. As many of you know, TNN has had to significantly reduce its normal operations and is currently regrouping and consulting with all of you to determine a more sustainable future for TNN and the support NSW theatre and performance artists have told us they need. Although I will step down from my part-time Director’s position, I will be joining the board of TNN and will continue to work with this amazing group of people to ensure a unified voice for our sector. In the meantime, I am very pleased to announce that Katrina Douglas will take up the role of Coordinator, one day a week, to support the board and the organisation during this redevelopment phase. Even a month ago, I couldn’t have imagined TNN would be so lucky to have someone like Katrina in this role. And, it seems, for TNN it has ever been thus. Opportunities and energies ebb and flow but we grasp them where we can for the benefit of our sector while always keeping our eyes on the road ahead.
I look forward to joining my peers on the Theatre Network NSW board and look forward to many more adventures together in the future.
